This book is so, so detailed, but written in a way that is easy to read. Written by an adoption lawyer but not technical or "legal" rather insider advice at navigating the confusing options in the adoption world. It was a lot of blunt talk about the pros of cons of each type of adoption and how to give you the best chance of success at each one. I thought I knew a lot about adoption but admit I didn't even know about some of the types discussed, like non-resident adoption, and adoption registries. I really liked the review of every state's adoption laws. I give this book an A+.
An essential handbook for anyone looking to adopt in the US. Before you spend a dime, understand adoption ethics, your state's laws, learn about which types of adoption and agencies are allowed in your state, and use the reference list in the back to find an experienced adoption lawyer who can help you navigate this challenging process!
This is a must read for anyone needing to learn the ins and outs of adoption. Mr. Hicks provides a clear and in depth look into the many facets of adoption. He describes 15 different types of adoption, selecting the right agencies and/ or attorneys, red flags to look out for, a state by state legal review, and five appendices with incredibly helpful information (just to name a few). It is straight to the point and easy to understand. It is a great resource and will serve as a wonderful reference book.
This is a great source for a plethora of info. So far, it has been very helpful. I love the outline of it as well. It’s making it much easier to understand.
Hicks uses clear language in a clear and readable style that answers many questions without getting into all the legal jargon. Highly recommend. His years of experience really shows.
This is a great step by step book covering everything you need to know about adoption in America from start to finish. It even includes a State-by-State review. I found this book to be extremely informative and easy to read and understand.

There are a lot of things to know to get an adoption and laws to follow. Easy to follow and to read.
