The two stars has nothing to do with book’s content as I found it amazing but it is about its condition. I have been an Amazon customer for quite a while now and, in that time, I have not returned many items or given many bad reviews. Because I only paid $8 for this book it seems hardly worth returning but it is worth expressing my complaint. While it is a beautiful book with wonderful pictures the copy I received appeared to have some sort of damage, perhaps from water, I do not know. What I do know is I was planning to use this book in my Animal Ministry so it was going to be very visible, probably on display on my table top. However, in this copy, the protective cover is stuck to the book cover, pages are both wrinkled as well as sticking together and it has a musty odor. I am totally surprised that the vendor of this item felt it was worthy to be called an item in “good†shape or worthy of selling at all. So very disappointed:(
I love this book! I have had 3 black dogs and I think all black dogs are beautiful. They are just like any other dog that deserves a caring, loving home. I am so glad that part of my purchase will go to the Labrador and Friends Dog Rescue Group. I highly recommend this book to anyone, especially dog lovers like myself!!
Black Dogs and Black Cats are the best. I have a BorderCollie Mix who is black with white tips and a black cat is smart and sweet and cares about the other pets in the family. The dog is probably my best friend and takes care of grandchildren but large and small. I am lucky and you will be too if you heed the message in this fine book. Don't leave black dogs or cats behind as they are super and you need to learn that.
Got this for my mom as a gift, since we love our own big black dogs so much. The pictures are beautifully done, both as a result of Fred Levy's talent (the photographer), and the care that went into the printing of this book. Anyone who's ever tried to photograph a black animal ever knows what a difficult task it can be, but how wonderful the results are when it goes your way. The stories for each dog are very cute and sweet as well, each describing how they were overlooked because of their color, but how they are just as wonderful companions as any white, brown, or blue dogs!And as a bonus, my mom and I were thrilled to see that there was a black chow chow, just like our own pups. :)

Bought this as a Christmas present for myself when Amazon offered a percentage off books at that time. I love dog photography, and black dogs, so I'm a little biased... but this is a great coffee table book. I also like the message, too many dogs are euthanized because black is a less desirable color. I'm here to tell you I've owned every color dog, black coats always stay shiny. Every rescue dog fan will appreciate this book.
